I’ve always been surrounded by a diverse group if you look at my friends you will notice the differences in culture, race, gender, etc. since I got to St. Norbert, I’ve notice that the diversity here is not a big as I’ve experienced in my previous education levels. However, St. Norbert has made it a goal to increase the diversity at the school. If you read the mission statement of St. Norbert, you will see the commitment to making St. Norbert a diverse school. Some the statements made in the mission statements included “At St. Norbert College, we are dedicated to creating an environment that fosters learning and respect for individual and group differences across cultures, perspectives and beliefs as part of an educational environment that fosters intellectual, spiritual, and personal development’. This is a way for St. Norbert to ensure the success of their students as they surround them with individuals and groups who hold different values, cultures and as well as beliefs. This way, the student is presented with the chance to learn from different people as a chance to increase their own knowledge and that they can be successful.
Advancing diversity is an objective shared by numerous in American schools and colleges. Diversity seems to be the hot topic today in higher education. It’s not only race, ethnicity, and gender but also religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and age.
