I’ve always been surrounded by a diverse group if you look at my friends you will notice the differences in culture, race, gender, etc. since I got to St. Norbert, I’ve notice that the diversity here is not a big as I’ve experienced in my previous education levels. However, St. Norbert has made it a goal to increase the diversity at the school. If you read the mission statement of St. Norbert, you will see the commitment to making St. Norbert a diverse school. Some the statements made in the mission statements included “At St. Norbert College, we are dedicated to creating an environment that fosters learning and respect for individual and group differences across cultures, perspectives and beliefs as part of an educational environment that fosters intellectual, spiritual, and personal development’. This is a way for St. Norbert to ensure the success of their students as they surround them with individuals and groups who hold different values, cultures and as well as beliefs. This way, the student is presented with the chance to learn from different people as a chance to increase their own knowledge and that they can be successful.

Diversity is a way to welcome different kinds of students and that these students would feel welcome at the school. However, trying to increase diversity at an institution is something that needs to be keep active as most higher education institutions has rules and regulations that prevent different people to attend the school. For instance, in an article by Zack Ford Christian College Demands Expelled Lesbian Student Pay Back Financial Aid talks about a student at a Christian school who was expelled because she was a lesbian. If the rule and values of religious schools poses a problem for the school to increased diversity at the school, then student who don’t agree with these rules and values are less likely to attend these school. It can be argued that diversity enhances the success of students.
